This position is a Tuesday – Saturday (AM/PM shifts, as well as 3rd shift available)
Responsible to assist in the pre-analytical, processes associated with specimen processing and test performance. The Histotechnician will prepare and stain sections from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens for routine and special procedures. This is a very fast paced lab with constantly changing priorities, the ideal person must be very organized and familiar with good documentation practices. Position requires an ASCP/HT Certification.
Under the supervision of a qualified supervisor or physician, each individual must—
Perform tissue sectioning from paraffin blocks using automated/semi-automated microtome.
Operate automated IHC stainer, special stainer and H&E stainer
Operate equipment for tissue processing and/or embedding.
Operate digital slide scanners
Examine/microdissect tissue using a microscope.
Update (transcribe) test requests into computer laboratory information system as needed.
May assist in the training and competency of new personnel.
Preparation ,storage and QC of reagents.
Assist in preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and processes
Excellent communication skills necessary to deal effectively with co-workers; Ability to deal effectively with all levels of laboratory staff and to communicate clearly and concisely over the telephone. A willingness to work in fast paced, high volume laboratory. Able to perform basic math functions and accurate data entry. Mus possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
Education and Experience:
HT/HTL Certification preferred with a minimum of 1 year experience in HPC/IHC environment, or minimum High School Degree with 5 years’ experience in Histology. Bachelor’s degree in Science (recommended).
