The incumbent will be assigned as a clinician and report to the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will participate, oversee, guide and collaborate to ensure that all providers (which may include inpatient providers,consultants,Community Living Center (CLC) providers) demonstrate appropriate utilization of facility resources.
The Physician Utilization Management Advisor will intervene on cases that do not meet criteria when he/she has the ability to suggest alternatives to admission or continued stay or suggest an alternate level of care. In addition, this individual will work with the Chief of Staff and Clinical Service Chief to maximize use of inpatient services. This individual will identify types of care which PVAHCS need to provide to best meet patient care needs.
Educational requirements of thePUMA are to collaborate with other physicians to ensure proper education of medical students and residents related to medical documentation and appropriate levels of care. The individual is strongly encouraged to participate in educational related activities at the Medical School or residency program at the University College of Medicine-Phoenix. The incumbent will ensure proper education of other physicians and ancillary staff as related to medical documentation and appropriate levels of care.
Administrative responsibilities require the incumbent to attend and provide input, as appropriate, to boards, committees and councils, as needed. The individual will attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and other clinical and administrative staff meetings. He/She will actively promote performance improvement measures within all inpatient services.
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
