The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) is located on 337 acres situated on the Gulf of Mexico in Bay Pines, FL. The Bay Pines VAHCS is part of the VISN 8 Sunshine Healthcare Network and services the healthcare needs of America's Veterans in West Central and Southwestern coastal Florida. BPVAHCS provides care to a veteran population of more than one million in Florida and treats approximately 98,000 unique veterans annually. The medical center serves as a referral center for this area with 397 operating beds with care provided in almost all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties as well as inpatient residential and long term care. Bay Pines, Florida is home to several beaches and parks. Florida is known as the "sunshine" state with an average of approximately 240 days of sunshine a year! A national certification in Geriatrics is preferred, as is the certification in RAI-MDS.
The RAI-MDS Coordinator assists the long term care and skilled nursing staff in consistently and accurately gathering information regarding resident needs and strengths. This provides the foundation for an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updates the Long Term Care Facility Resident Assessment Instrument and set forth the requirements and guidelines for completion of this process.
The RN is responsible for ensuring that all members completing any section of the RAI-MDS assessment shall have access to the RAI User's Manual and updates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of the process.
He/she will be accountable for coordinating the MDS assessment schedule, creating, completing, and closing all MDS assessments.
He/she will use MDS Quality Indicator Data to develop performance improvement activities at the unit level.
He/she will stay apprised of CMS hot topics, current issues and immediate changes.
He/she will provide and develop training programs to educate staff.
Additionally, the RAI-MDS Coordinator will be accountable for chart/care plan reviews, the development of action plans and follow up on action plans implemented.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, supporting Community Living Center, Nursing Service and Geriatrics and Extended Care with all aspects of MDS/MPAF.
