Chief Executive Officer
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (“the College”) is the specialty's premier professional membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women’s health care and the professional and socioeconomic interests of its members through continuing medical education, practice, research and advocacy. The College is a 501(c)(6) organization with more than 58,000 members.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides organizational leadership and management for a complex $70 million national organization with more than 200 full-time staff, as well as supporting or leveraging hundreds of dedicated, passionate member volunteers. Reporting directly to the Executive Board, the CEO is responsible for collaborating with and being responsive to the Board's direction. The CEO leads the College's senior executive team in the implementation of the strategic plan and in the management of all other aspects of the College. The CEO works closely with the Executive Board on key issues impacting the organization and its members, including educational programs, advocacy, and relationships with other medical specialty societies, industry, and provides excellent organizational support and services for its members.
The preferred candidate for CEO is an OBGYN physician executive preferably with extensive experience as a senior level leader for an organization of comparable size and complexity, preferably at the CEO or COO level or equivalent leadership position in a similarly sophisticated and complex healthcare organization (health system, academic medical center, medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare technology company; or governmental agency). Although prior CEO or CEO-like experience is strongly preferred, s/he must exhibit a successful track record of implementing a strategic plan that has been forged in collaboration with a board.
