We are recruiting for an Employment andLitigation Paralegal to join our Law Department in Louisville, Kentucky.
Provides legal services coordination and support for Employment Counsel on all matters as needed.
Provides litigation support to employment counsel developing and maintaining files and reports, collecting and organizing documents for production, drafting and coordinating responses to interrogatories and requests for admission and interviewing company witnesses under the direction of employment counsel.
Provides investigation support on Administrative charges, petitions, audits and claims from various governmental agencies, including but not limited to the U.S. Department of Labor, State Departments of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; state civil rights and unemployment board agencies, under the direction of counsel.
Responds to records requests and subpoenas for employee records according to applicable state law.
Conducts electronic searches as directed by employment counsel.
Receives new employment matters and assigns to appropriate employment counsel.
Drafts and sends litigation hold notices and outside counsel retention correspondence for new matters.
Gathers and organizes documentation for new employment matters and discovery requests.
Prepares acknowledgment letters responsive to administrative matters.
Maintains and updates caseload reports for the employment group.
Serves as the Law Department STARS database contact, which includes adding new users, training new users, and acting as a liaison with I/S during system updates and issues.
Opens new matters in STARS and updates as needed.
Creates electronic file for all lawsuits and administrative cases and updates when new documents are received.
Assists employment counsel with investigations, wage and hour audits, state law research and various projects.
Organizes and maintains data base for employment-related contracts.
Maintains litigation reserve data forwards approvals to applicable Finance personnel; preserves all approvals for audit requests and updates reserve report.
Performs legal research as assigned.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of employment law.
Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently.
Proficient in Microsoft Word. Excel and Lexis a plus.
High school diploma required; paralegal certification preferred; related experience in similar setting shall be considered if candidate does not have a paralegal certificate.
5+ years experience in a law firm and or corporate legal setting.
Depending on a candidate's qualifications, this position may be filled at a different level.
