The Center for Public Health Policy at the American Public Health Association (APHA) highlights the connections between communities — where we live, work, play and learn — and our collective health. The Center advances evidence-based policies and practices to address the social determinants of health and create health equity for all; and serves as a catalyst for positive change by influencing public policy at all levels of government and within the private sector. The Environmental Health Program brings national attention to environmental health issues and promotes sound policy that protects the health, well-being and quality of life of the public in all communities across the country. To support environmental health work, staff conducts analyses and develops targeted educational programs and messages that highlight the connection between healthy communities and healthy people.
The Senior Environmental Health Fellow will lead coordination of several key environmental health programs across content areas, including children’s environmental health, healthy community design, environmental health workforce capacity building, and tribal health. The fellow will conduct research, writing and communication activities; coordinates events, meetings, and calls; contract management; and liaises with other APHA units as appropriate. This is a full time (35 hours per week) position. It is a temporary, grant-funded position that is guaranteed for six months.
Master’s degree in public health or a related field. At least two years of work experience in environmental health. At least two years of experience providing programmatic and/or administrative support. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time. The ability to interface with a diverse team of staff, consultants and organizational partners.
Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.
Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
