Kindred Healthcare is seeking an Infection Control - Nurse Education Coordinator for Mercy Iowa City Rehabilitation Hospital, our new, 40-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) located in Coralville, IA! Our new rehabilitation hospital in partnership with Mercy Iowa City is scheduled to open in May 2020 and will offer specialized programs for people who have experienced stroke, brain and spinal-cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries and other conditions requiring inpatient rehabilitative services. The Infection Control / Nurse Education Coordinator (ICEC) assumes responsibility and accountability for the hospital-wide Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement program. The DQM will assist the CEO/leadership and Medical Staff to establish priorities for Performance Improvement. He/she ensures that disciplines in the hospital work collaboratively to plan and implement Performance Improvement activities. The ICEC will focus on measuring, analyzing and trending information in order to improve outcomes. He/she will assure ongoing monitoring of performance to ensure that improvements are sustained. The ICEC will direct and assist in compliance with federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for the surveillance of infections and for the hospital Infection Prevention and Control Program. In collaboration with hospital leadership, develops implements and evaluates the Infection Control Program.
Develops the annual hospital wide Infection Control Plan; evaluates the effectiveness of the program and reports findings to leadership and appropriate committees.
Assures systems are in place to report infection surveillance, prevention and control information to:
appropriate staff in the hospital
federal, state and local public health authorities in accordance with law and regulation
other referring or receiving hospitals or organizations needing information regarding the presence of infection in a patient received or transferred
Plans, implements and directs the surveillance of infection of all departments and services that provide direct patient care or provide the support of patient care.
Collaborates with Employee Health/Human Resources in the prevention and surveillance of infections among hospital personnel; includes interventions for immunization and/or treatment to staff and licensed independent practitioners.
Identifies potential sources of nosocomial infection and implements actions to eliminate the source; and evaluates infection data to distinguish between nosocomial and community-acquired infection.
Assists in identifying, monitoring and controlling outbreaks of nosocomial infection among patient and hospital personnel.
* Maintains surveillance in order to collect, analyze and trend data; provides accurate and timely reports to the Director of Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement, leadership and appropriate committees.
Assures the hospital implements infection prevention and control activities to reduce the risk of infections associated with medical equipment, devices and supplies.
Acts as a resource to hospital personnel in implementing isolation techniques or other infection control measures.
Communicates and collaborates with the Laboratory in order to identify significant laboratory information.
In collaboration with hospital leadership and personnel from applicable departments or services, reviews and revises the program to improve outcomes.
Provides education for employees regarding infection control during orientation and ongoing in-services as required.
Provides leadership and oversight of a comprehensive, efficient and integrated organization wide Continuous Quality Performance Improvement program.
Measures and assesses performance through collection, analyses, and trending of data.
* Focuses on processes and systems to improve performance.
* Directs, facilitates, and reports on all aspects of services relating to risk management and patient safety.
Investigates factors contributing to adverse outcomes in order to improve processes and systems. Encourages reporting on risk reduction strategies in an atmosphere which minimizes blame or retaliation. Fosters environment to reduce unanticipated adverse events and/or outcomes.
Responsible for education of Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement and additional hospital-wide education and training.
Directs the functions and operation of the hospital-wide continuous quality improvement program including review of records for indicators of quality; reports findings to leadership, Medical Executive Committee,the Board of Managers and other committees as appropriate.
Responsible for education of Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement to hospital and medical staff.
Annually reviews hospital wide plans for the functions of IC and CQPI and establishes goals and objectives for the next year.
* Acts as a liaison to local health officials, coordinates inspections and accreditation reviews with state and other regulatory agencies.
Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development, and the aging process for the planning and delivery of age-appropriate care.
Other duties as assigned.
* Registered Nurse with current licensure in the State of Iowa.
* Certification preferred by NAHCQ (National Association of Health Care Quality).
* BSN or BS/BA required. Two years of experience in an acute hospital or rehabilitation setting required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
* Current Basic Life Support/CPR Card
* Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate PI activities; effective oral and written communication skills and proficiency in basic computer skills required.
* Working knowledge of staff development and the educational process, quality improvement and safety/risk management standards.
* Effective oral and written communication skills, in English with additional languages preferred; proficiency in basic computer skills required .
