Atlantic Health System is seeking a per diem Registered Nurse for the ECT unit at Morristown Medical Center to work varied hours, including every other weekend.
Responsibilities
Essential Function/Responsibilities:
Nursing Process: Provides nursing care to ECT patients appropriately utilizing the nursing process. Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patients condition. Consistently uses therapeutic communication skills with the patient and family as appropriate. Plans care according to nursing standards. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan as needed. Clearly documents discharge criteria-desired outcomes are met following treatment. Provides discharge teaching and patient education to patients and families. Documents same in patient record. Utilizes a non-judgmental approach regarding cultural, racial, socioeconomic and diagnostic issues. Maintains own boundaries and does not self disclose to patients/families. Seeks out supervision as needed. Age specific competencies: Adult, Geriatric.
Technical Duties: For the ECT procedure the nurse verifies that all necessary supplies required to perform the treatment are available including the treatment device, IV fluids and related tuning, suction, anerthetic agent, muscle relaxant, nerve stimulator, bite block and ventilation bag and mask. Uses correct patient idenitification procedure with patient involvement if able. Verifies all required documents are on chart (including consent for Acute/Maintenance ECT treatment, H & P, labs, etc). Monitors medical condition and intervenes with appropriate medical care and consultation as needed. Consistently follows all procedures required to provide safe care including standard precautions, and follows National Patient Safety Goals. Ensures that a Time Out is performed. Documents accurately, completely and concisely in patient medical record. Utilizes Quantros to report any adverse events. Age specific competencies: Adult, Geriatric.
Coordination of Care: Communicates with ECT Clinician to ensure quality care. Establishes and maintains positive communications with physicians, and co-workers in support of cohesive team relationships. Assists with transport as needed including confirming patient will have supervision upon discharge. Reports pertinent observations to physicians regarding their patients. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Provides a report to ECT Clinician after each treatment day to inform of treatment outcome for each patient including when physician recommended follow up care. Notifies ECT Clinician of all pertinent patient and staff information impacting ECT treatment. Age specific competencies: Adult, Geriatric.
Customer Service: Consistently responds to patients and families in a courteous, positive and timely manner. Consistently demonstrates/respects patient and family rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality. Facilitates exchange of ideas to maintain safe and quality service. Able to adapt to new policies, procedures or scheduling with positive attitude. Fosters teamwork among co-workers. Age specific competencies: Adult, Geriatric.
Professional Duties: Follows all procedures required of nursing as outlined in ECT Procedures. Coordinate and assign nursing care provided to patients. Observes nursing care team to ensure quality of milieu and efficiency of treatment provided. Intervene/instructs as appropriate. Accepts feedback with positive attitude and makes appropriate adjustments as needed. Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel and provides feedback on performance and competency of team members as needed. Flexible with scheduling to meet the needs of patient treatment schedules. Provides availability to ECT Clinician monthly and responds in a timely manner to requests for coverage.
