Report to the Social Work Service and is assigned to the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center Team under Polytrauma. Provides clinical and administrative management of social worker services in the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center, the Polytrauma Network Site, the Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program, the Service Members Advanced Treatment Program, the Spinal Cord Injuries & Disorders Center, and numerous Polytrauma Centers of Excellence. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizens Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service. Ability to provide staff training and development. ["Assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating, and overseeing the social work staff of the assigned programs. Will participate in continuous survey readiness through ensuring staff competency folders are up to date with required documentation. Reports, PI projects, and other documentation required for accreditation are kept current and up to date. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Ensures staff complete all other required trainings within allowable timeframes. Supervises employees to accomplish the work in assigned unit. Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. Ensuring patients have access to care via completion of required documents, 1010s, Advanced Directive, and other forms that assist with access to care within the VA or the community. Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State, local, and private agencies, and universities. Technical assistance provided to monitor activities and program reviews, and the development and analysis of information. In addition, the incumbent uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements. The incumbent performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contract work as possible with various agencies (public, DOD, state, etc.). Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs. Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component. A substantial portion of the workload directed by this position will be carried out at one or more locations that are physically removed from the main unit under conditions that make day-to-day supervision difficult to administer. Conducts staff development programs and takes responsibility for providing opportunities for staff to update social work skills or acquire new knowledge in contemporary treatment modalities. Information must be disseminated quickly and as expeditiously as possible. Often, this will include offering specialized trainings to all social workers who provide services, both inpatient and outpatient. Participate on all assigned committees, work groups within or external to the facility. Ensures that unlicensed social workers have access to clinical supervision for licensure. Incumbent oversees orientation of new clinical staff regarding social work functions. Develops and monitors staff compliance with social work practice, standards and guidelines on documentation, workload, data entry, ethical practice and service delivery. Incumbent assesses competency of social workers and keeps competency folders current. Will be involved in recruiting, screening, and interviewing social work service applicants. Various duties require an ability to prioritize many different tasks in order to provide the most multi-objective programs consisting of treatment, training and education, ensuring that services are provide in a timely, comprehensive and coordinated manner for each program. Will be responsible to serve as Acting Chief, Social Work Service, in the absence of the Chief and the Assistant Chief. The high level of care, extreme degree of activity, and broad program mission of this facility is complicated by the high patient turnover rate, which generates complex administrative and patient care management problems. Oversees and provides the coordination and assignment of social work staff in assigned unit during disasters, drills and emergencies when indicated. Will participate in rotational weekend and after-hours supervisory coverage. Performs other directly related duties as assigned.
